Child abuse doesn't discriminate based on gender, social standing, ethnicity or religion. A child is nothing but a growing adult, who's brain is yet to develop about things going on around it, understand people & environment going towards maturity. It is something against the child. It destroys the child physically as well as mentally. Just because of child abuse, the child not only breaks down, but even looses hope in humanity & will fear to stand again.
Based on the reports we have, It's conservatively believed that in today's society 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually molested before they are 18 years old.
A survey sponsored by women & child development ministry & carried out by the NGO Prayas in association with Unicef & save the children, found that over 50% children in India were subjected to or another form of physical abuse. Contrary to belief , the survey showed that among children, more boys are abused physically than girls. And what's the most shocking of all in 94.8% of cases, children were raped by someone known to them, according to data collected by the National Crime Records Bureau.
Not much action has been taken by the Indian Government over the past decade, after 2007 study by the Women & Child development Ministry indicated that 150 million girls & 73 million boys were the victims of over 1.3 billion people.
Imagine how bad they'd be If we added in the kids who experience violence, neglect & the emotional trauma that resuls from growing up in a severely dysfunctional family!!
Most of the NGO that work with or come into contact with children should have safe polices & procedures for that every Child, regardless of their age, gender, religion or ethnicity can be protected from Harassment.
We should tell them about the people they are surrounded around, guide them, council them in a way that their childhood dreams aren't lost & will learn to fight back.
